Alfa 75: the seduction you don't expect
24 May, 2019

He wears miniskirts and tight waist belts, he doesn't go out without an alpha red lacquered smile, but conquers with his heart. Alpha 75, the seduction you don't expect.

As announced last month , Sunday, May 12, we celebrated theAlfa 75 by presenting a preview of the "Alfa 75 Special" edited by Antonino D'Anna for the Alfista's garage.

Among the guests, in addition to the legendary Pietro Cozzi, Alessandra Giorgetti (commercial manager of AFRA).Alessandra caught the provocation of the "language that winksat theMan Who Must Never Ask" with which the 75 was presented at the time and presented the femininity of the Alfa 75. The smile on her lips is a must.

The sensuality you don't expect

by Alessandra Giorgetti

As men well know, we women are attentive to aesthetics, beautiful things, lines, colours, not horsepower, acceleration from zero to a hundred. In short, for us cars are like shoes with heels: a 12 heel doesn't stop us!!!! So, if the car is beautiful, a woman drives it regardless of speed.

So my intervention will be a female intervention, which will tell a car born for a male audience, but that from market surveys, knew that it could also meet women who, you know, really like accessories.

Think for example of the waistline, so much sung by Alvaro Soler: "un movimento de cintura". Or think of the shapely hips of a woman, Betty Boop or Marilyn Monroe. In the same way, the 75 is sexy for its waistline that skims the windows and underlines the Alfa shaped lines.

On the other hand, as D'Annunzio wrote "the car is a woman" and the Alfa knew it well (Giulietta, Giulia, Alfetta...). At the 75 they gave the name of the anniversary, but however it resounded strongly masculine, for "the man who must never ask", but in reality it was made up like a beautiful lady. The Alfa was going through a period of financial crisis, and the style center was asked for a facelift to the savings! Generally, you know, the more you spend the less you spend, but in this case Alfa Romeo was fine anyway, because the essentiality of the car's lines brought it up to the present day with a timeless look that certainly didn't bore you.

Designed by architect Cressoni, the 75 was born from the study of geometries. The fascia was used to hide the reuse of the doors of the Giulietta, it was already a circular economy car, ECO-Friendly: as always Alfa was one step ahead of everyone!!!

Observing the side of the 75 we see that it has 3 ribs: the first one, the upper one, in plastic, that goes around the whole car, that goes to mask the doors of the Giulietta, giving the inclined effect and that also goes around the boot; the central rib, that starts from the front headlights and graphically joins the reflective band of the rear bonnet; and the third "pinch" as Touring said, is the one of the lower line of the doors.

In 1988, moving to the second series, we dared more, a bit like us women who, over the years, acquire security and sometimes dare. The 75 also dared, wearing MINIGONNE (women's accessory par excellence), widened the fenders with push ups and put a small spoiler on the rear bonnet. Not satisfied, she also raised the bonnet to make room for the 6-cylinder engines. And it wasn't fattened, as some malignants said, it simply increased muscle mass.

The instrument panel has become more cheerful, from white to orange, a sunnier colour (and we still hum Alvaro Soleil) and the rear lights have become red because, as they say in Milan: "cinq ghei pusé ma rus", Alfa red! [Five liras more, but red].

The 75 really set the trend with innovative details for the time such as the central handle of the handbrake: "inspired by fighter planes" they said, but in reality this solution was optimal for ladies with long nails, it avoided the annoying search for the small lever between the seats, wrong distances or in a hurry, it allowed not to chipping the nail polish!!

Even the cigar lighter was designed for lacquered nails: the small rectangular protrusion, instead of the annoying circular snap button, allowed not to ruin the nail polish.

The first standard electric windows, eliminated the annoying and masculine movement of the handle raising glass; the positioning of the buttons at the top near the rear-view mirror, is intriguing to give yourself a stroke of eyebrows and look at yourself, before lowering them; while men enjoy to send to hell elegantly those behind ... the gesture raising the index or middle finger to press the button, could be misunderstood.

The color range had refined colors, some decidedly feminine: white metallic silver reminiscent of the color of Australian pearls (for the uninformed, the most precious on the market worth 450 euros each with a diameter of 1.5 cm) ideal for a beautiful Audry Hepburn necklace in "Breakfast at Tiffany's". It was followed by the metallic blue, the Gabardine color that recalled the raincoat of Humphrey Bogart's timeless sex symbol!!!

Unfortunately, the most common colors remain the masculine, monotonous, serious as the suits worn at work ... black, white, metallic green, metallic gray. There was also Dutch blue, but I don't think I've ever seen one.

Mechanically the 75 was derived from the Alfetta, a car ten years ahead of the competition and this allowed it not to be obsolete as soon as it came out. The brake pads, for example, are mounted on Ferrari, BMW, Maserati, all top of the range and the 2000 Lamborghini Diablo roadster.

I conclude by saying that in '87 Fiat bought Alfa and the Alfa 75 lost the name Alfa simply called WEEKLY FIVE, the next car the 164 also lost the rear wheel drive so, as many say, it was the last real Alfa or rather, the last real Alfa was ALFA 75 and not the 75.
