CHARITY

We value them

"Italy with flags, Italy naked as ever, Italy with its eyes open in the sad night. Long live Italy that resists".

We are often inspired by the songs on our car radios, and today it is the words of Francesco De Gregori that give us strength with his W l'Italia: "Italy with its flags, Italy naked as ever, Italy with its eyes open in the sad night... Viva l'Italia, Italy that resists".
Viva l'Italia, Italy that resists". Yes, because if there is one thing that this dramatic moment of fragility has brought out, it is the extraordinary ability to resist of doctors, nurses, hospital staff, police forces and the ability to move, to merge, to feed on countless initiatives aimed at helping others. Some have converted production to provide gowns and masks, others have organised solidarity shopping. We have accepted the appeal of Professor Salvatore Forte, president of the Fondazione Comunitaria Ticino Olona, to support the RSA, RSD and CSS in the area that are in urgent need of support. We share his letter below.

"The word community evokes everything we need and lack in order to feel confident, calm and secure."
(Zygmunt Bauman)

Time is running out, byAMOvalues

"There is no more time", said Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte just over a week ago, announcing restrictive measures to protect the health of Italians and to fight and eradicate the deadly virus known as COVID-19. In fact, since that day the situation has worsened, the contagions have spread and we all hope that the restrictions we are experiencing will produce the desired results in a few weeks. In the meantime, the health aspects and side effects of the treatment of the disease have worsened.

In our area, two categories appear to be particularly vulnerable: the elderly and people with disabilities. They seem to us to be the most fragile when it comes to the virus, and their carers have to take extra precautions so as not to become unwittingly infected or infected themselves. Moreover, because of the strict rules on distance and restrictions on movement and contact, they lack the fundamental support of family members and volunteers, who in normal circumstances supplement professional assistance. This makes their day-to-day life even more difficult, as well as the operations of the staff and structures responsible for their care.
In this situation of national emergency and aware of the great hardship that the Lombardy Region - the one most affected by the virus - is facing, Fondazione Ticino Olona, with the support and collaboration of many local stakeholders, is launching a collection of donations to support elderly or disabled people and those who provide services for them by setting up the FONDO EMERGENZA COVID-19.
The fund is endowed with an initial ceiling of 65,000 euros and will support initiatives identified through an ad hoc call for proposals according to an order of priority dictated by the contingency. The entities that may participate in the call for proposals and apply for grants are RSAs [Residenza Sanitaria Assistenziale], RSDs [Residenza Sanitaria per le persone con disabilità] and CSSs [Comunità Alloggio sociosanitarie per persone con disabilità] run by non-profit organisations in the area covered by the Foundation.
We ask the whole community to join in this solidarity effort to protect those who are most vulnerable in the emergency: let those who are most fragile feel our virtual but concrete embrace!
