Luigi Bianco: the Museum pilot
23 January 2017

Let's face a myth: the boxer formula does NOT have four pedals! Luigi Bianco tells the Formula Boxer that he drove for many years and that today is exhibited at the Fratelli Cozzi Museum.

Did we tell you we were at the Motorshow? Yes, it will be one of the experiences that we will carry in our hearts and an extraordinary opportunity to collect a lot of alfiste stories. Today we would like to tell you a special one, that of Luigi Bianco, former Formula Boxer and Rally driver from whom we bought the formula exhibited today at the Museum.

INTERVIEW WITH LUIGI BIANCO

Luigi, can you tell us the story of "our" Formula Boxer?

The Formula Boxer Championship was a brand trophy. In the world of boxer cars 52 examples were built, this is the No. 16. I bought it from Reggiani of Bologna and I enjoyed it very much.

When you bought a car, did you leave everything original?

Yes, I left everything original, as it came out of the house, so it had to stay. Just a few retouches (editor's note for possible bumps). I had two GTAs, a normal one that I prepared, and one bought from Angelini of Rome, already prepared.

With the formula I won the Italian Formula Alfa Boxer Championship... uphill. With other cars we have done many national and international races, like the Salento Rally.

We often say at the museum that pilots were heroes...

Many years ago we used to race at 300 km in Monza, but it took a bit more km to get to certain performances. The speed was always high, now at 300 meters are already at 300 km / h. Before it was the driver and the car you had to drive, now it is the driver, but they are all electronic.

Can you give us some technical information about the car on display at the museum?

It is fitted with a front gearbox, normal engine with a small preparatina, four gears and the back. There were 2 original ones left, because then came the new regulations that allowed the use of the chassis and the free engine, they mounted the 16 valves, changing everything.
