But do you remember?

28 June, 2018

But remember when we picked up the Giulia? And when they wanted to buy the 155? That collector who wanted the Gobbone... Yes, Pietro Cozzi remembers every story about his Alfa Romeo. He reminds them why his history and that of these cars intertwine, in a succession of memories that span decades of Italian history.

The Fratelli Cozzi Museum wanted to give a load of anecdotes to its visitors, before the holidays. They will be able to tell the stories of Peter to their friends, proving to be true Alphists!

In the past few days the delegation of AICAR Associazione Concessionari Alfa Romeo also visited the Museum and it was a great emotion to find many of the friends and colleagues with whom the memorable Alfa Romeo route was shared. A concentration of extraordinary stories!

"These cars are a library" - began Pietro - "because on every car we could write more than one book!"

And he's right, every car has a story linked to its creation, to its mechanics, to the study of design, to its sporting career, but also the story of who bought, sold and drove that car. Every car in the Fratelli Cozzi Museum has a license plate, every car has a name.

A name that often resurfaces among the memories is that of the Scuderia Cavallotti. One day the mother of the famous Eugenio Cavallotti, an extraordinary driver who lost his life on March 14, 1957 during a private practice session on the Aerautodromo di Modena, met Pietro Cozzi and some friends. They were a tight-knit group, four or five guys and he told them: "If you can put together eight, ten drivers we will reopen the Scuderia Cavallotti in memory of my son Eugenio". So they did, and together with Pietro ran the friend and customer Carlo Marinoni. The same one who, a few years later, asked to buy a Giulia T.I. Super, a car he had driven several times and now wanted for himself. So he bought "our" Giulia T.I. Super, one of the two unique pieces in the world present at the Museum.

What makes it unique is its London smoke colour , wanted by a Quattroruote reporter, who proposed it as an alternative colour to the traditional white lead (499 models produced) and the red already used in sports competitions. It was the colour that the pilots considered too elegant.

"These cars are a library because we could write more than one book on every car!"

1900 also has a lot to tell. The car on display dates back to 1958, the company was born in 1955 and in 1957 Pietro Cozzi had the duty to make it clear that a company that sold and assisted Alfa Romeo was born. "Iwas 20 years old - he says - I was not an experienced salesman, but it was so much the desire to make Alfa Romeo know about the territory that I took a folder with some brochures, some documents and some numbers and I started to go around the companies in the area, introducing myself and offering an invitation to the test of 1900″.

The clients who accepted the invitation were amazed. "Think - continues Pietro - that the competing car was the Fiat 1400 (smiles). The 1900 was already doing 180 km/h!" Someone fell in love with it and bought the car, others, regretfully, replied: "it's a beautiful and important car, but I can only dream of an Alfa Romeo". Because Alfa Romeo was this for many: a dream, a symbol of redemption. We can add to the story that some of the customers who couldn't afford Alfa in 1958 returned in the following years, thus realising their dream, which was the Italian dream of recovery first and then of boom. Years in which Italian companies rebuilt the country's economy.
