autodelta, 60 years of passion

February 26, 2023

on the occasion of museocity - secret museum we open to the public to celebrate 60 years of the legendary autodelta

Whether you call it Autodelta or Auto Delta, the automaker, which later became a distinctive name for Alfa Romeo's racing department, is blowing out 60 candles-a major milestone for the brand, which was independently active for only three years, from 1963 to 1966.

Alfisti know it well: after retiring from competition in 1951, Alfa Romeo management was against officially engaging in the series derivative races that often featured Giuliettas prepared by outside workshops. It was then that Alfa's experience department tried to involve outside companies, such as Zagato and Abarth, for the purpose of developing the "105.11 project," a racing car based on the Giulia to be engaged in competitions.

It was then engineers Carlo Chiti and Lodovico Chizzola, former Alfa Romeo technicians, who created an autonomous structure suitable to carry out the "105.11 project": Autodelta, that is. It was on March 4, 1963.

MUSEOCITY - SECRET MUSEUM

By a nice coincidence, March 4 falls during the weekend of the seventh edition of Milano MuseoCity, a weekend dedicated to all museums, from the most emblazoned to the lesser-known, which have the opportunity to catch the eyes of citizens and tourists alike.

This weekend also sees the return of Museo Segreto, one of the most beloved appointments of Milano MuseoCity: a route that winds its way through the city to discover works that have never been seen before or told in a new way. The "secret" works of 2023 are as many as 72 all linked by the theme of the edition "The Light of Museums." There is no need to emphasize it, but we do it anyway: culture is a true beacon of knowledge, well-being and pleasure for all who love it.

We are also taking part in the initiative: on the occasion of its 60th birthday we will "shed light" on Autodelta's success through the stories of journalists and drivers and through our Giulietta, the last mass-produced Alfa Romeo to bear the Autodelta logo: only 361 units were produced between 1983 and 1984 .
