so many emotions, gimax!

January 18, 2023

our 2023 could only open with an exciting and participatory event: check out the photos!

We decided to combine the first reopening of the Museum in 2023 with an event that could at the same time commemorate the second anniversary of the passing of Lainatese pilot Carlo Franchi, better known as Gimax, who passed away precisely on January 13, 2021.

A choice that. turned out to be perfect: in fact, there are so many people in the territory who have followed and loved Gimax's career, studded with rocambolic events and truly memorable adventures.

Gimax is not only known in our area: in fact, during his lifetime he participated in the great endurance races such as Le Mans, Spa, Targa Florio, Daytona and in many other competitions in Italy as well as abroad. The event on Sunday, January 15, started with the presentation of a book, "Life and Deeds of the Unstoppable Gimax," written by Vittorio Piaggi, friend and biographer of the driver.

so many fans visited the museum and listened attentively to the exploits of gimax told by those who were fortunate enough to know him

Gimax's adventures cannot be counted: starting with the time he almost crashed on the bridge of the Bentley Straight after a dangerous spin, instead ending up slipping under the bridge and coming out unharmed; or the time his Wainer went flying and fell on the car in front of him, driven by a very angry British driver (Gimax on that occasion got away with saying in Brianza: I just missed the landing!) or even the time he met Gilles Villeneuve in his Ferrari.

With so many stories to tell, the parterre could only be exceptional: with Vittorio Piaggi, author of the book, we had the pleasure of having in our chat Jimmy Pessina, journalist, photographer and friend of Gimax, pilots Gianni Giudici, Peo Consonni, Leone Pelanchin and Giuseppe Chiapparini, then Gigi Franchi, son of Carlo (Gimax jr: Gimax is a nickname derived precisely from the nicknames of his sons, Gigi and Max), journalist and pilot Eugenio Mosca and journalist Giuseppe Colombo .

It was also very exciting for us to meet Gimax 's son, Gigi, whose pilot name is Gimax jr: Gigi, as a good enthusiast, appreciated the Museum (thank you, we are very happy!) so much that he wanted to donate a piece for our Cozzi.Lab archive.

This is a silver medal minted in 1990 by the State Mint for Alfa Romeo's 80th anniversary.

In short, we are not only happy for the success of the event but also a little moved.

What a great start to 2023 for our Museum!
