The NEW 1986 Quadrifoglio

10 December, 2021

1986 was both an important and a terrible year for Europeans.

On 26 April in Chernobyl, Ukraine, the number 4 reactor of the nuclear power plant suffered an accident whose consequences weighed on the territory (and beyond) for decades. Those who were there at the time remember: the news repeated "don't open the windows" and "don't eat salad". There was a lot of fear and even more doubt about the future.

But 1986 was also a year of great wonders.

Starting with Halley's comet, visible for the first time since 1910, the same one perhaps depicted on the Nativity in the Scrovegni Chapel by Giotto, but let's also think about Argentina's victory at the World Cup in Mexico with the famous match on 22 June, the one in the quarters with Diego Armando Maradona's goal and his "Mano de dios".

In short, another year of hopes, disappointments, fears and thoughts for the near future. Sentiments recorded, as always, in magazines and vintage documents including, of course, our Quadrifoglio.

Welcome once again to the Cozzi.Lab archive: this month we browse through the 1986 Quadrifoglio together. Are you ready?

"In Italy, credit cards have not been as widespread as they have been in other countries'.

"we will do it with a light hand, i.e. giving fantasy and image predominant roles'.

ettore massacesi, talking about the rebirth of il quadrifoglio".

TURBO 75

As already mentioned, after the first issues of the new Quadrifoglio dedicated more to lifestyle than to cars, Alfa cars are back in the spotlight of the most popular magazine among enthusiasts.

In 1986, the summer issue featured the Alfa 75 Turbo, produced in Arese from 1985 to 1993.

Obviously, the Museum is home to one of them: a very rare 75 Turbo Evoluzione that is much appreciated by Alfisti and fans of Italian design. Have you come to see it yet?

THAT CORNER OF TYROL...

As you know, Alfisti love to travel. So here on the new Quadrifoglio are the columns dedicated to the most beautiful Italian and European flavours and landscapes.

In addition to Tyrol, the 1986 issues also featured features on Veneto, Scotland and Cornwall.

The photographs of the dishes and views are a boon for those nostalgic for the 1980s!

ALPHA AS JEWELLERY

Back in 1986, there were already many Alfa Romeo collectors (Pietro Cozzi was one of them) and so the magazine of the alfista dedicated an entire article to the most precious and rare models.

The Golden Arrow is one of the cars that have been highlighted, the same one that stands at the entrance to our fantastic museum 🙂 ...

THAT PACK OF CARDS

"In Italy, credit cards have not been as widespread as they have been in other countries'.

A phrase which, come to think of it, could also be used today!

So begins the article on digital means of payment, a real novelty (and a great convenience) in the 1980s.

Beautiful, as always, the illustrations by the illustrator Giuliano accompanying Annamaria Scullica's article.
