Museums care for the city: a word about MuseoCity

March 29, 2021

Why did Pietro Cozzi #MessoLì also put the newspapers sold in the 1960s in Legnano? There is a reason and we are very happy to take advantage of it.

We admit it: we loved the theme proposed by MuseoCity this year!

"Museums take care of the city" is such a true concept, so real in this year of closed doors and denied hugs that we feel like shouting it out in the streets of the city ... maybe on board one of our Alfas, style is always fundamental for us.

So, as we reported in another article, we participated from 2 to 7 March in the MuseoCity week - which involved over 90 museums - with two events: Bookowski | Not the ordinary literary café and the project: "The '60s, 60 years later" in collaboration with Città di Legnano, Confcommercio Milano - Legnano Territorial Association and the newspaper QN - Il Giorno as media partner, with the valuable presence of the journalist Paolo Girotti.

In the documents kept in our archive, the Cozzi.LAB, we have rediscovered the history of trade and daily life in our city. How? Through the newspapers sold in the 1960s in Legnano - some of which no longer exist - that our founder has preserved. But why did Pietro Cozzi #MessoLì the newspapers of that period? Because they contain articles relating to the city presentation of the new Alfa cars on sale.

At the time, the presentation of a new car was an event that involved everyone from the mayor to the parish priest, and it was immortalised in the local newspapers.

Browsing through those newspapers allowed us to discover not only the city life of those years, but also the businesses that bought advertising space in those days: some of those businesses are now closed, but others are now in their third, fourth or even sixth generation of managers!

Our guests on the live broadcast included the Grand Master of the Palio Giuseppe La Rocca, son of dentist Michele La Rocca, Gianmarco Sironi, sixth-generation jeweller and gemmologist, Rosanna Tozzo, of Tozzo Arredamenti, Luca Roveda of Roveda Assicurazioni, and Paolo Ferrè, president of Confcommercio Legnano but also representing the historic Corredi Zanchi. All these companies and their witnesses have in common the fact that they appeared in the advertising pages of the Legnano newspapers of the time together with us and our Alfa Romeos, and also the fact that they have characterised the history, customs and everyday life of our Legnano as we see it today!

Thanks to MuseoCity for the opportunity: see you again in 2022!

"I believe that in a community like ours, the museum is increasingly a place for the community to take care of and also a place for the community to take care of"
Lorenzo Radice, Mayor of Legnano
