MuseumCity 2021

February 21, 2021

Milano MuseoCity will be back from March 2 to 7, 2021 for a special week with over 90 museums as the protagonists of meetings, exhibitions and events, both in presence and digital, all united by the theme Museums take care of the city

Exatn exactly one year ago, just a few hours before the opening of the event created for Milano MuseoCity, we had to stop everything and close the Fratelli Cozzi Museum: the country had sunk into full lockdown. We were lost, sorry for not being able to share the work we had done, unaware that we would soon have to make much bigger sacrifices. Today we are back here together with MuseoCity, with one year more of experience, ready to affirm once again that Culture learns and certainly does not stop.

We have learned different languages and we have learned that even Museums can take care of the city; they have always done it, after all, but with their closure we have understood how unbearable the silence of Art was and how symbiotic the link with the territory was. We have added awareness to our social role and we want to start again from here.

On March 7, 2021 we will be there, to say that Culture is wounded, but nothing is lost. That Museums are ready to take care of their cities, that we are ready to do it. We'll be waiting for you on our social networks at 4 pm, to live live the emotion of memory that resurfaces, teaches and pushes us towards the future because, if it is true that "a people without memory is a people without history" (I Legnanesi feat Paolo Ferré), it is also true that a people without memory is a people without a future.

Fratelli Cozzi Museum: backstage MuseoCity 2021

At the Fratelli Cozzi Museum we feel like custodians of Italian and city memory, we tell it every time
we paint a social picture to frame our Alfa Romeos, following the vision with which Pietro Cozzi has
collected the 60 cars now on display at the museum.

Pietro, the founder, since the opening of his dealership in 1955, has kept every Alfa Romeo model sold, preserving the documents related to marketing, communication, together with
books, newspapers, trophies, merchandising, technical manuals. It is precisely this set of documents that today
allows us not only to admire the beauty of Made in Italy design over the last 60 years, but also to
draw a historical, social and artistic picture of our country. But there is more.

Sunday, March 7, 4 p.m. live on the Cozzi Brothers Museum channels:

MuseumCity 2021

The museum keeps in its archive copies of the most popular newspapers in the city of Legnano as a testimony
of the articles that appeared on the presentation of new car models. In those years, presenting a new car
became a real public event, to be done in the heart of the city, in front of all the authorities and citizens.
In the pages of these newspapers, some of which no longer exist, we can read about the city in
those years, discovering its life, events and commercial activities.
This is how museums take care of the city: preserving its history, rediscovering its protagonists, enhancing its
activities, telling its story. Museums are arks: they preserve the past to carry it into the future.

So how will our Museum participate in the prestigious event of the metropolitan city of Milan MuseoCity 2021? It will show articles, photos, advertisements from the 1960s of the city of Legnano.
We will tell the story of the economic activities that are no longer there, those that are still there and those that have turned into something else. In such a delicate historical moment in which the memory of a generation is being lost, in which there are great difficulties also for the economic world, we need to look at the past to be stronger in the present and face the future more united and aware.

The project is realized in collaboration with the City of Legnano e Confcommercio Milan - – Association territorial association of Legnano and involves witnesses and testimonies through videos and podcasts. We thank for participation Giuseppe La Rocca, Rosanna Tozzo, Gianmarco Sironi, Luca Roveda as testimonials of activities of the City of Legnano and we are also grateful for the extraordinary participation of Lorenzo Radice, Mayor of Legnano and Guido Bragato, Councillor in charge of culture, youth policies, sports, Palio.

Il Giorno, will be media partner of the initiative and we thank the journalist Paolo Girotti for his precious collaboration.

As part of the calendar of events of Milano MuseoCity, the Fratelli Cozzi Museum is pleased to host "Bookowski, Not the ordinary literary café". An event that will feature two women authors from Legnano and that will allow us to continue to "take care of the city" and to continue the appointments of the movement Woman In Powermovement, aimed at enhancing the value of the Women of the territory... and not only.
