Where there's people, there's velca - from legnano to moma

20 August, 2021

From 4 to 12 September the event for Design Week: the exhibition in the Sala Rossa will feature the iconic products of the Legnano-based company Velca

Cozzi Brothers Museum and Legnano go well together.

And not only because the Museum has won the Traveller's choice award 2020 by Tripadvisor which places it among the 10% of the best attractions in the world and as the first attraction of the city of Legnano (thank you!), but also because it has always been our precise commitment to enhance and promote the companies and history of Legnano through a story that sees our cars as protagonists, at times, or as supporting characters.

On the occasion of the Design Week and the programme of events for Fuorisalone 2021in collaboration with the 5VIE district, we have decided to propose an exhibition-event to make known not only the Museum but also the history of another important entrepreneurial reality of Legnano that today is no more: Velca Legnano.

Do you know Velca? Scaleo, Vip and Golf are just some of the most famous products of the brand from Legnano that has made design history. It is a brand that is recognised worldwide: Scaleo (1974) is even part of the collection of the MoMA - Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Among the designers who have collaborated with Velca Legnano there are truly famous names, unforgettable talents such as Renzo Piano and Oliviero Toscani, Roberto Lucci, Paolo Orlandini, Claudio Platania, Benanti & Brunori, Franco Annoni and Albert Leclerc.

The Scaleo ladder (1974) is part of the MoMA collection in New York .

Why do we want to tell Velca's story?

In order to bring back to the memory of the people of Legnano, first and foremost, but also of all business and design enthusiasts, an extraordinary company history. Business culture: what Italian companies teach the world.

In 1954, when everything seemed possible in the aftermath of the rubble left behind by the war, Aldo Casaroli and Luigi Vedani, in a small warehouse in Via Balbo, began to build the history of a company that would grow from a craft workshop to a 140-employee company at the height of its expansion between the late 1970s and early 1980s. A company that will leave an indelible mark, which until now has never been recounted This company left an indelible mark on the industrial history of the city and on the design of office furniture, a mark that has never before been recounted or reconstructed.

Thanks to the contribution of the QN-Il Giorno journalist Paolo Girotti and the son of one of the founders, Gabriele Vedani, we tell the story of the company through panels and objects on display. journalist QN-Il Giorno Paolo Girotti and the son of one of the founders, Gabriele Vedani - the history of this company, which is so important for the Bergamo area and beyond.
