Zagato: collectibles since 1919

25 May, 2019

The tribute event dedicated to 100 years of Zagato, with Andrea Zagato and the participation of Afshin Behnia CEO of Petrolicious. Not to be missed!

Many of you had asked to know the extraordinary story of Zagato which, in 2019, celebrates its first century of life and we have listened to you. It is with great pleasure that we invite you not to make appointments for SUNDAY 16th JUNE, because we have prepared an unmissable event for you!

Together with Team Zagato we will retrace the origins and the relationship with Alfa Romeo of the historic signature that, as we often say at the Museum, "draws with a scalpel". We will also ask ourselves what it means to be collectors today and above all we will retrace the paths of "necessary beauty".

Guest of the day Afshin Behnia, founder/CEO of Petrolicious

And so that you are not caught unprepared, here are some salient steps in the history of Zagato.

Among the creations of Ugo Zagato, who founded the company in 1919, and his son Elio, there are authentic masterpieces that wrote some of the most glorious pages in the history of the Brescia race: from the very elegant Alfa Romeo 6C Gran Sport of the 1920s - which triumphed with Giuseppe Campari in 1927 and 1928 and with Tazio Nuvolari in 1930 - to the magnificent "double bubble" Gran Turismo of the 1950s, such as the Alfa Romeo 1900 SSZ or the FIAT 8V berlinetta, which dominated their category. Notoriety came with Alfa Romeo cars with bodywork in the 1930s, such as the 1929 6C 1500 Compressor, the 6C 1750 Gran Sport (1932) and the 8C 2300.

After the Second World War the activity resumed with the so-called "Panoramica" series (1946), designed by Vieri Rapi on the basis of a project for the Isotta Fraschini Monterosa. The Panoramica (built on Fiat 500 and 1100 mechanics, but also on a Ferrari 166 and Maserati A6 1500 base) were two-seater berlinettas with large windows (with extra glass above the windscreen).

Zagato's activity had a real boom in the 50s and 60s, especially in the field of Gran Turismo: Maserati, Lancia, Aston Martin, Abarth, without forgetting the "old love" Alfa Romeo, were dressed with streamlined and aerodynamic lines (characteristic of the cars of the Milanese bodywork was the "double bubble" roof).

Since the '70s Zagato, under the guidance of Elio Zagato, son of the founder, with the reduction of orders from the big car manufacturers, also began to take an interest in industrial design.

In more recent times the company has passed under the direction of Andrea Zagato (grandson of the founder) and has its new headquarters in Rho, in the Milanese hinterland: its plant occupies an area of 23,000 square meters, 11,000 of which are covered.

A must for every classic car enthusiast. A benchmark in terms of original content, images and videos of extraordinary quality. Petrolicious celebrates "the inventions, personalities and aesthetics that ignite the collective desire for great cars. It informs, entertains and inspires the community of enthusiasts, stimulating the interest of those who are lost.

Straight from the USA, Afshin Behnia will tell "with taste" his passion for cars that deserve to be immortal. Drive tastefully and enjoy Museum.
